People vary in terms of what motivates them to exercise and how they exercise. For those who go the gym, choices locally include Clem Jones, Fitness First, Fernwood and Snap Fitness and they are all fairly different to each other. For example, Clem Jones has a strong community feel with it being the base of lots of youth sport activities and a family friendly set of swimming pools. In contrast, Snap is part of a chain and focused on adults and convenience with its 24 hour access and modern equipment.
The newest offering in the area, GO Carindale, looks to be VERY different – it’s modern and high-tech (look at the treadmill video below) and the brand is colourful and entertainment focussed. Classes include ‘hip-hop’ and ‘burlesque’.
GO Carindale is part of the Go Health Clubs Group and is located in the new wing of Westfield Carindale. Go Health is a Brisbane-based company and won the Fitness Australia ‘Club of the Year’ in 2010. Foundation Membership for GO Carindale went on sale on February 1 and there’s been lots of marketing buildup throughout the year.
The club will be a massive open plan, featuring amazing facilities and exciting audio visuals, all conveniently located on one level with easy access to plenty of (new) rooftop parking. Our promise is to provide a world class fitness centre that will give you an unrivalled workout experience.
Putting some further pressure on competitors, it ran a Fitness First and Goodlife price-match campaign where you could join on a ‘similar’ rate if you brought in your current membership or statement. Gym membership can often be a mysterious beast, requiring a meeting with a ‘membership officer’ rather than being able to get prices online or by phone and with tricky contracts. Hopefully this competition will force gyms to be more upfront and flexible.
With parking at Carindale being the hot topic that it is, they produced this video to show the best parking for GO Carindale.
GO Carindale is holding a ‘sneak peek’ of the club which is open to everyone this Saturday 23rd June from 9am-5pm. The club officially opens 4.30pm Monday 25th June.
Have you signed-up to Go Carindale? What local gym to you use and why? We’d love to hear your experiences.
