Carina Leagues Triathlon Club has a record 23 junior athletes selected for the Metropolitan East Team to race at the All Schools Triathlon and Aquathlon State Championships at Redcliffe in February 2013.

Development Coach, Jaimie Trotter said: “The club’s previous record was 16 qualifiers and this time we made up over a quarter of the entire regional team.”

Jaimie said podium finishes were achieved by Luke Willian, 1st place Senior Boys, Lucy Smith, 3rd place Intermediate Girls, and, Samantha Whitting, 1st place Junior Girls.

Also qualifying for the team, finishing amongst the top athletes in their categories, were Kyle Mellon, Declan Wallace, Stephanie Burstall, Michelle Lo, David Pinto, Lachlan Ashworth, Joseph Willian, Danyon Richards, Jessica Pratt, Lily Clapham, Annabel Lee, Harry Bennett, Mitchell Bradbrook, Ben Weir, James Weir, Katie Smith, Jessica Ashworth, Jordan Curd and Patrick Jennings.

“Our junior triathletes headed to Kawana on Sunday, November 11th along with families, coaches and friends, to claim their place on the team. They had been training all throughout the winter in preparation for this race.

“The youngsters were geared up to give their all and hungry for a spot on the team, so it was a very pleasing result and a great return on the efforts they put in to achieve their goals,” Jaimie said.

“High school aged kids race the triathlon in either a junior, intermediate or senior age category, while primary school aged kids compete in an aquathlon.

“A top ten placing at Kawana qualifies as selection for the Met East team,” Jaimie said.

“In horrendous conditions of strong winds, heavy rain and choppy water, the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club stayed positive and stood strong in support of our junior athletes.

“On days like these, coaching staff, club committee members and all parents and families are reminded of how extremely proud they are to be a part of our club,” Jaimie said.

Jaimie said all junior athletes were now having a well-deserved recovery period before they began preparing in the school holidays for their State Championship races next February.

Jaimie said whilst the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club was very pleased with the efforts of all juniors at Kawana, the club also caters for athletes of all ages and abilities.
