Parents Invited to Put Skills of Three Legs of Triathlon Training into Christmas Stockings
The Carina Leagues Triathlon Club has suggested parents consider filling up their children’s Christmas stockings with an entry into the junior triathlon holiday skills camp on Thursday and Friday the 10th and 11th of January.
“Held at the sensational facilities of the Clem Jones Centre, Zahel Street Carina, this is an opportunity your kids will not want to miss,” Club Junior Development Coach Jaimie Trotter said.
Run from 9am to 3pm each day, this holiday camp will teach the fundamental skills of triathlon with a particular focus on transition skills, what to do after the swim leg and after the bike leg of races.
The camp is designed for kids aged 8-14 year olds with any level of experience in the sport.
“Under the guidance and supervision of well-qualified and experienced coaches, the aim is to get kids outdoors and into our sport by providing a safe, fun and skill oriented activity,” Jaimie says.
“Previous camps held earlier this year have been a huge success.
“We have had a considerable number of families sign up for their third consecutive camp,” she said.
Matt Curd, parent of 10-year-old Jordan Curd, spoke on his experience as a parent at the September holiday camp.
“My son Jordan attended the two day Skills Training Camp at the Clem Jones Centre during the last September school holidays,” Matt said.
“Not only was the camp great value at $100, as it included morning tea and lunch, a triathlon gift pack and ran at a very convenient time each day, but Jordan really enjoyed himself.
“Jordan picked up plenty of tips during the bike maintenance and sports psychology sessions and had lots of fun with a great group of kids under well conducted supervision.”
“It was fantastic to see my son gain so much pleasure and confidence in such a healthy way.
“An entry into the January camp with a focus on transition skills will definitely be going into his Christmas stocking!” Matt said.
Jaimie said participants in January will learn skills such as bike mounting and transition set up, in a game oriented environment, while receiving loads of tips on racing from coaches and professional triathletes.
“To finish the camp off with a bang, and ensure the children are race ready, we will run some action packed mini aquathlons and triathlons for the kids to practise the skills they have picked up in safe, yet race like conditions.
There are also discounts for second and third family members.
