UPDATE: on the 14th March 2013 the Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta got an official Facebook page.

____________

What are your expectations of accessing your local members via Twitter and Facebook?

There is currently no official Facebook page or Twitter account for the Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta. The Labor Candidate for Bonner, Laura Fraser Hardy has a Facebook page but is not yet on Twitter.

Will the 2013 Federal Election campaign be motivation enough for Mr Vasta’s social media debut? Will it be the prompt to get Ms Fraser Hardy tweeting?

The State Member for Mansfield, Ian Walker, was last month appointed Minister for Science, IT, Innovation and the Arts. A few days after that appointment he started tweeting.

Adrian Schrinner, Councillor for Chandler and Deputy Mayor has been a relatively early adopter of social media and web technologies, compared to most local politicians. He started @schrinner in 2009 and his Twitter bio says: “Absolutely passionate about Brisbane. Also love books, technology, coffee & VWs. (Tweets are my own – not a staffer) “. Cr Schrinner is also active on Facebook and has created Facebook polls for various issues including the relocation of Carindale Post Office.

Federal Member for Griffith Kevin Rudd is well known for his very active use of social media, with @kruddmp joining Twitter in 2008. He regularly replies to his Twitter followers and, in 2011, became the first Australian politician to reach one million followers.
