carboot marketI went to chat to the organisers behind the new Carindale Car Boot Market to see how their initiative is going and what future plans for it are. I discovered that there was far more to it there, than simply a car boot sale.  I will write about some of their other projects and activities in future posts as there’s so much to cover.

But here’s a snapshot of the market side of things that I chatted to Rev Trevor Thomas about. He is the Senior Pastor at the church of Nazarene and has a great vision for using the space.

Trevor and the team there would love to see artists and crafters join the market. They are also keen to have fresh fruit and vegetables available.

“We want it to be an atmosphere that people enjoy,” Trevor said.

Live music entertains the crowd

Local clubs and causes can use their BBQ to run a sausage sizzle as a fundraiser and to promote their group at the same time.

“We want different groups to feel that they can use this as a place to advertise.”

Trevor says the car boot has attracted new people to the space. He said that only one stall is run by a church family. All the others who have booked, are brand new to the space. He is pleased that many who came to the first car boot market returned for the second time and are booked for the third.

The greenspace upon which the markets sit is surrounded by a small Centacare respite centre, the Church of Nazarene, the Meadowlands Road Men’s Shed and a small strip of businesses. Trevor said there were strong relationships between all of these groups and the market enhances the already strong community spirit.

The markets also provide a covered area to enjoy a tea or coffee and cake while enjoying some live music. We also noticed a play area for kids.

The September car boot coincides with another local highlight – the Brisbane Motorcycle Show and Shine, hosted by the Redlands Branch of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club. It is in its third year and will run next door to the markets.

  1. Hello can you tell me if the car boot sales still run on the first saturday and how much to hire a space and what size is the space.

  2. Hi there!

When is your next car boot sale ? 2nd August? I would like to have some space to sell. Any info would be much appreciated.

    Jeanette 🙂

  3. Hi Demi, it’s always on the first Saturday of the month. So the next one is April 5th. It will be best to call the organiser Val on 0424 038 269. From what we understand, generally the stallholders set up at 7am and it kicks off at 8am … but again a good thing to confirm with Val.

  4. Good afternoon,

I would just like to know when the next few car boot sale dates are on. And how early to get there to set up and hire a space.

    Kind regards,

    Demi Johns
