Lynda from RE/MAX profile MV Real Estate won a month’s membership to the Fernwood Gym at Carindale in the raffle at the recent Alzheimers Australia fundraiser. She was also the auctioneer on the day and did a great job.

In the day’s raffles, Lynda won a one-month gym membership. Already active and with a dog to share her exercise with, she thought it would be a good prize for a Carindale Connect reader.

The prize is one month Gym Membership for Fernwood Carindale to be activated by 30/11/11.

If you would like this gym membership, just leave a comment below letting us know you’d like it and we’ll be selecting a winner at random before midnight on Wednesday. We will have your email address recorded when you submit your comment but it will not be published.

National Carers Week 2011 started on 16th October and runs until 22nd October.  There is a Carers information stand at Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre on Thursday 20th October as part of the local activities.

If you are a carer, close to someone who is or you think you may be in a caring role down the track, this is a good opportunity to find out more information that can help you and others.

State Member for Chatsworth Steve Kilburn said Carers Week was a time to recognise and thank carers across the community for their hard work and commitment.

“Carers provide an invaluable contribution to the people they care for and the broader community,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

We also sought some comments from the Bat Conservation & Rescue Qld. Inc which has been vocal online about the media’s portrayal. The following post is by Denise Wade, the group’s Vice President:

The Truth About Flying-foxes

Flying-foxes are Australias only nocturnal, long distance pollinators and seed dispersers of native forests. Our unique flying mammals are crucial for the ongoing biodiversity, maintainance and health of our forests. Read the rest of this entry »
