Today I got my free access card so I can use the secure 24/7 bike shelter at Carindale. It was a quick and straight forward process.

Facilities such as this are important to encourage cycling, especially at a high-traffic place such as Westfield Carindale.

It ‘should’ have more bikes in it than it does, but, like with so many healthy and environmentally friendly concepts, we need to un-learn many habits to make use of them.

I want Carindale Connect to help highlight local facilities and options like this that 1) locals may not know about or 2) need more promotion / questions answered to encourage people to make the transition to.

New equipment has been put in place at Carindale Recreation Reserve.

I really like to see community areas being catered for like this and I asked Deputy Mayor Cr Adrian Schrinner a bit about the latest park development.

The equipment was funded from a budget initiative that will see similar upgrades rolled out in district parks across the city.

Deputy Mayor Cr Adrian Schrinner (Councillor for the Chandler Ward) says the Carindale Recreation Reserve is an ideal location for this equipment as it is one of the most popular and well-used parks is the eastern suburbs.

“The park has great equipment for kids for a number of years, and now we have something for adults as well,” Cr Schrinner said.

Ferrago Giant bicycleI bought a new bicycle this week from Carina Cycles (854 Old Cleveland Road).  It’s a Farrago Giant (actually a men’s bike as I’m a bit tall for the ladies’ bike) and my partner got a XTC29 Giant. We received really good service from the Carina Cycle guys too.

Canned foodThanks to a program between Brisbane City Council and Foodbank Queensland, you can assist people in need by grabbing a few extra tins of food at the supermarket or from the kitchen cupboard and dropping them off at your local library.

The program is running until February 18 and Foodbank will be looking after the distribution to families needing flood relief. Read the rest of this entry »

“Doing a drop off to RNA evac centre in morning if anyone in the Carindale area wants anything picked up. I’m throwing in some mags too”"

While there may be some people experiencing water problems, overall Carindale has been extremely lucky and generally not in danger of flooding. Our region is particularly well placed to be of assistance. We’re close to flood affected areas such as Bulimba, Murarrie, Hawthorne, Coorparoo and West End and there’s particular help that’s easier to give right now, logistically, because of geography. And we’re able to help  regional Queensland through money donations and many other ways, now and in the future.
