B4C (Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee) provided us and their members with this letter they sent to Adrian Schrinner (Councillor for the Chandler Ward).
Dear Adrian,

Today I received a call from Council compliance area and they have agreed to install a surveillance camera in Westbury Place Carindale. This is a hot-spot for large-scale dumping and is a long-term problem area in Carindale.

The officer said he would install the camera for a one month period and hopes to solve the problem.

I would like to thank you for your support in attaining this outcome, and realise your active advocacy for improving situations like this is an important factor in maintaining our catchment in good order and maintaining decent standards of public behavior. Read the rest of this entry »

World Rivers Day

You’re able to celebrate World Rivers Day locally, on the 25th September, with Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C).

B4C is currently trying to raise $2500 online to plant 400 native species to provide habitat and riparian buffer to the waterway that flows to Bulimba Creek, Brisbane River and Moreton Bay. The creek corridor is known to be home to koalas, possums and squirrel gliders.

The tree planting will be happening on World Rivers Day which is a waterways celebration held on the last Sunday in September. The International RiverFoundation is promoting World Rivers Day through its global network and has developed an Australian focused campaign to financially benefit local Australian catchment areas. Minnippi Parklands

Minnippi Parklands, Brisbane

Hey high school students, there’s plenty of great spots around Carindale, Carina, Mount Gravatt etc where you could get inspiration for this Brisbane photography challenge. But you’ll need to hurry as you have to submit the printed copy of your photo by June 3.

The Green Eyed View competition challenges high school students to capture a unique perspective of a natural wonder of Brisbane City. I double checked with them that the competition included the the Carindale region.  It can be a micro view, a macro view or from a perspective that the average natural areas photographer has not yet discovered. Finalists will be exhibited at the Bleeding Heart Gallery between June 22-27.

I reckon there’s some great nature photo opportunities to showcase sustainability and the beauty of Brisbane’s natural landscapes in areas such as Minnippi Parklands and Belmont Bushland Reserve. You could also get some inspiration via the Mount Gravatt Environment Group and the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C).
