Yesterday afternoon a house was broken into and items stolen in Briarwood Street, Carindale. Someone in Naretha Street (adjoins Briarwood Street) has also reported that in the same afternoon two young men parked in their driveway, walked along the front patio, looked through the front window. When the owner came out of the house they asked for directions to Scrub Road and then left in a bright blue car.

A house in Turubul Crescent, Carindale was also broken into yesterday afternoon. There have been reports that a number of other houses in the area were broken into yesterday. There was also an attempted break-in in Naretha Street just under three weeks ago on a Saturday night, which we have only now just learned about, where they climbed on to the roof to access windows on the second level. Over two million Australians have back problems each year. The consequences of back pain are serious – it affects families, lifestyle and productivity. People with back problems report 2.5 times more disorders, such as depression. One in eleven Carindale residents can be expected to have back problems this year.

This means one of the most powerful preventative health steps you can take, is to improve your postural fitness. That’s the message from the Chiropractors Association of Australia (CAA) who is urging residents to Get Back to Your Best this Spinal Health Week (20-26th May).

Local Chiropractor Dr Matthew Watkinson from Life Chiropractic Centre, has called upon Carindale residents to take up the challenge of improving their postural fitness. “Postural fitness means optimal spinal alignment. It gives you greater strength and endurance, better coordination and balance”, Dr Watkinson said. Continue reading »

This year was the 10th year running for the national annual Neighbour Day. We chose to run a Neighbour Day event in Carindale this year.

Bridgnorth Street Park (corner of Boynedale & Bridgnorth streets), Carindale, is a large, green park which was well suited to the event.

The day featured billycarts and BBQ provided by Carindale Rotary, music by The BUMS (Brisbane Ukulele Musicians Society), a book swap run by Carindale Connect, a Crop Swap run by Green Dean Earth & Food, coffee by Clive “The Coffee Guy”, kids craft by Jewel West and slushies by Sensational Slushees. We’ll be writing more about Neighbour Day and community soon. For now, check out the image gallery from the day. If you have photos to share, email them to info@carindaleconnect.com.au

The following is a speech made in Parliament by Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta.

I rise tonight to advise the House of the recently announced plans by Australia Post to relocate its Carindale Post Office, which is in my electorate of Bonner. The post office is currently located within Westfield Carindale shopping centre. Australia Post has confirmed that it intends to relocate to Metropol Shopping Centre, three kilometres from its existing location. The relocation is expected to occur by mid-April and will include the transfer of all post office boxes to the new site. This site currently attracts upward of 700 to 1,000 Australia Post customers daily and is especially convenient to the seniors community of Carindale, who regularly use the shop as a way to pay their bills. Essentially, this now means there will no longer be a post office in Carindale. Indeed, it will move entirely outside the boundaries of the Bonner electorate. In real terms, it means that all Carindale residents—and countless businesses and community groups—will be robbed of the convenience of a post office. Continue reading »

By Peter McNeil, University of Technology, Sydney

Next time you drive through a suburban street or any country town shut your eyes for a moment and try to imagine the dreams of the people who built that house. Houses are envelopes for our desires and hopes and change with every generation. Continue reading »
