What do you get when you mix a social arty-crafty group with a beautifully preserved bowls club at Christmas time?

The ‘Bowlo Bazaar’ Christmas market, that’s what.

A small group called Birds of a Feather who meet at the Holland Park Bowls Club are holding their very first Bowlo Bazaar. I asked the event’s organiser, Jo Sullivan, to tell me a bit more about it.

“We gather twice a month to share ideas, drink enormous amounts of tea and engage in enormous amounts of chat. On top of all that we do a bit of craft!” Jo says.

And now these Birds of a Feather are welcoming in everyone for a friendly and relaxed Christmas market. Jo says anyone who appreciates handmade, upcycled and pre-loved items will appreciate the Bowlo Bazaar. Continue reading »

More than 25 community groups and organisations on Brisbane’s south side, from Ipswich to Moreton Bay, are banding together to celebrate their achievements and raise community awareness of the need to preserve and enhance south east Queensland’s catchments and natural areas.

The groups are supporting the third Peaks to Points Festival, running from 1-16 September.

Peaks to Points Festival Chairperson, Lynn Whitfield said the festival aimed to encourage the community to explore our natural areas and find out what is being done by to improve our environment by the various groups on Brisbane’s south side.

Today we had a look around the Holland Park Bowling Club. We were there for Pushies Galore – the bike swap and sell event, which was largely held outside the building.

As soon as we poked out heads in the door we were welcomed by a group of people who were happy to show us around. They said the bowls club is often hired for events such as 21sts. It’s a beautifully preserved retro-feeling venue. Continue reading »
