Floods in Ipswich, Queensland (AAP: Dave Hunt)

Brisbane Abruzzo Association (home of AC Carina Football Club)  is seeking donations of prizes for their fundraising raffle this Friday and we (Carindale Connect) are helping to spread the word and to coordinate items from the local area.

On Friday 11th February from 6pm the Brisbane Abruzzo Association (150 Fursden Rd, Carina) is expanding on their pizza and pasta night to hold a flood fundraiser event for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. As usual, everyone is welcome at the club.

Any businesses wanting to donate items or gift vouchers and the like for the event’s raffle can do so by contacting us (you can also ask questions at the bottom of this post). The Abruzzo club will also be listing those businesses who have donated a prize, along with their logos, on their website and we’ll promote them in this post.

If your prize donation is in the immediate local area, and available for collection at some point between now and 11am Friday 11th Feb, Jewel of Carindale Connect will even collect it! To arrange collection just contact us with your information.

The information below will continue to be updated as raffle donations are provided. (last updated 10th Feb)

Below is transcript of today’s press conference with Premier Anna Bligh.

TRANSCRIPT – PRESS CONFERENCE – 27 JAN THURSDAY
E & O E – PROOF ONLY

RE: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FLOOD LEVY; TOMORROW’S MID-YEAR BUDGET REVIEW; ATSB’S FINAL REPORT INTO PACIFIC ADVENTURER SPILL

PREMIER ANNA BLIGH: I welcome the announcement by the federal government that they have a funding package to help Queensland get back on our feet. I’m particularly pleased to see a $2billion upfront payment. That gives us the confidence to do our own budget calculations and, more importantly, it gives us the confidence to get on with the rebuilding task. To have those dollars right up front means that state government and local councils can get on with contractors and get on with signing up to some of the bigger projects that we’ve got in front of us. Bulimba going under at Oxford Street

Picture taken by James (http://twitter.com/zoomzoom83) of the water around Bulimba Ferry Terminal when Bulimba was closely watching the flood waters rise.

[This is an open post which we'll be adding to over the next few days. We welcome your contributions, offers of help.]

Latest update!
Local Tanya Williams today (Saturday 15th Jan) tweeted …
“Doing a drop off to RNA evac centre in morning if anyone in the Carindale area wants anything picked up. I’m throwing in some mags too”"
and
“RNA evac centre needs toiletries, ladies products, combs, deodorant, toilet paper, tea, coffee etc plus people to help box up essentials.”

So let her know if you have supplies to give her …

While there may be some people experiencing water problems, overall Carindale has been extremely lucky and generally not in danger of flooding. Our region is particularly well placed to be of assistance. We’re close to flood affected areas such as Bulimba, Murarrie, Hawthorne, Coorparoo and West End and there’s particular help that’s easier to give right now, logistically, because of geography. And we’re able to help  regional Queensland through money donations and many other ways, now and in the future.

This post is for both information updates and ways that we can best help.
