An estimated 269,000 Australians currently live with dementia. Without a significant medical breakthrough, that is expected to soar to about 981,000 by 2050. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke.
We are really happy to be involved with Afternoon Rock – a fun rock n roll / rockabilly themed fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Australia, hosted by Special Care Clothing. It’s on Sunday 25th September at the Brisbane Abruzzo Club at Carina. There’s going to be raffle prizes, a silent auction and some great dressing up. Urgent need to plan ahead to combat Australia’s growing dementia epidemic
Alzheimer’s Australia is awaiting the release of the final report of the Productivity Commission on 8 August with cautious optimism.
Ita Buttrose, President of Alzheimer’s Australia said she was encouraged by the commitment of the Prime Minister to act on the final report of the Productivity Commission but said the reforms would fail if there was no commitment to keeping dementia as a national health priority.
