Last Wednesday the Carindale Community Forum showcased the activities of some local community groups and had a chat about local history.

Ian Bruning of the Camp Hill – Carindale Lions Club had a chat to us about the local Lions.

Supporting Rosies food van and helping Lions Medical Research are some of the ways the Lions Club benefits the community.

“We’re also helping people caught between a rock and a hard place,” Ian said.

The club helped someone who had to go to Sydney for an operation by paying for their petrol to get there. Continue reading »

Press Release: Police Minister Neil Roberts and Commissioner Bob Atkinson today joined local MPs Steve Kilburn and Cameron Dick for the official opening of the new Carina Police Station.

Mr Roberts said the state-of-the-art facility – at the corner of Narracott Street and Creek Road – would serve as the base for local policing in Carina and surrounding suburbs for many years to come.

“The construction of this new facility was a commitment made by the Bligh Government in the lead-up to the 2009 State Election and we have delivered on that commitment,” Mr Roberts said.

“The station replaces the former Camp Hill Police Station which has been identified by the Police Service as no longer being suitable to meet the needs of the local community.” Continue reading »

**Update – Monday 19th September**
The Carindale PCYC are appealing for help. Although insurance is hoped to cover the replacement of the building and bus, many things will not be covered over the months while the building is being reconstructed. You can donate to them online here.

There was a fire at Carindale PCYC yesterday, burning out one of their vans and destroying a significant part (reports saying one quarter) of their building.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Steve Kilburn met with Sports and Child Safety Minister Phil Reeves at the Carindale PCYC to inspect the total damage done to the premises.

“It is more extensive than what can be seen from the outside. We have made arrangements for the Vacation Care program that starts on Monday,” Mr Kilburn said. Continue reading »

There was lots of activity today at the construction site for the long awaited new Carina Police Station.

The factory-built building was transported on trucks to the site at the corner of Narracott Street and Creek Road. The building arrived plumbed and wired, with light fittings and power points already in place.

Steve Kilburn MP says the quick on-site construction time minimises inconvenience to surrounding land use and the plan is designed to suit the site and surrounding environment.
