Australia Post will now be opening a shop front at Terry White Pharmacy (lower level) at Westfield Carindale.

As reported in January, the post office was forced out of Westfield and is moving to the Metropol centre (on the border of Mount Gravatt East, Carina & Carindale). Ross Vasta MP said that the move was due to a clash of egos unable to come to a better arrangement.

“You will all recall that I lobbied Australia Post on behalf of Carindale residents for Australia Post to retain a presence at Westfield Carindale and they have done so,” Mr Vasta says.

“A big thank you to Australia Post for listening to the residents of Carindale, this is a big win for the community.”

State Member for Chatsworth, Steve Minnikin and Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta addressed the Carindale Community Forum at Pacific Golf Club last night to raise the issue of the post office move from Westfield Carindale.

Mr Vasta said that he was having a meeting at his office with Australia Post on Thursday to discuss the issue.

“I hope that we can actually resolve this sooner rather than later,” he said.

“I will be taking this to highest level that I can.”

As we announced on 29th January, Australia Post plans to close at Westfield Carindale on April 26th and reopen at the Metropol on April 29th.

Mr Vasta’s office recently sent a hard copy survey to local residents asking their views about the move. The survey, Mr Vasta said, of over 8000 residents showed that: “overwhelming support was for the Australia Post to remain where it is there in Carindale”.

The negotiations, Mr Minnikin explained, started off with Westfield wanting Australia Post to move from its current spot, but not necessarily relocate outside of the centre. Continue reading »

The following article has been reproduced with permission from The Conversation. We’d love to know what residents of Carindale, Carina and surrounds think about the topic.

We all know that children learn by example. I know if I swear in front of my four year old I’m going to hear that word again soon, probably right in front of my mother-in-law, a school teacher, or a priest.

But even as adults, it turns out that we remain more like more like kids in the playground than we like to admit. Continue reading »

What do you get when you mix a social arty-crafty group with a beautifully preserved bowls club at Christmas time?

The ‘Bowlo Bazaar’ Christmas market, that’s what.

A small group called Birds of a Feather who meet at the Holland Park Bowls Club are holding their very first Bowlo Bazaar. I asked the event’s organiser, Jo Sullivan, to tell me a bit more about it.

“We gather twice a month to share ideas, drink enormous amounts of tea and engage in enormous amounts of chat. On top of all that we do a bit of craft!” Jo says.

And now these Birds of a Feather are welcoming in everyone for a friendly and relaxed Christmas market. Jo says anyone who appreciates handmade, upcycled and pre-loved items will appreciate the Bowlo Bazaar. Continue reading »

When you buy a gift do you think about how the item was inspired and made or who your money benefits?

Talk of Christmas shopping often includes car park rage, crowded shopping centres and the like. But does it need to induce stress and frustration? You can shop online of course, but what about a more tactile and sociable experience such as a twilight market? Continue reading »

We asked SpecialFX Hair Studio (Carindale) owner Michelle Coglan what she thinks is hot for Spring.

This season is all about bright bold colours, especially neon.

It can feel a little scary or maybe too youthful for those not used to wearing such bold colours. Some of the neon brights might scream 80’s. It could mean, standing out in a crowd too much.

Well, it certainly doesn’t have to be that way at all. Continue reading »

Australia’s 15th Apple store opened today at Westfield Carindale.

While the queue grew quickly outside, I was able to join a media preview of the store that was held about an hour before opening to the general public.

A passionate Apple representative took us through the store and a range of products. He started by promoting the Apple Store app and we were encouraged to open it up on our iPhones to better experience the store. Continue reading »
