Police are searching for two men who broke into a Carindale home last evening threatening the occupants with a firearm and a knife.

Around 11pm two men wearing balaclavas forced their way inside a Hereford Crescent residence, gaining entry via the front door.

The pair threatened the five occupants of the house, four adults and one youth before assaulting one of them, a 19-year-old man, around the head.

One of the offenders discharged a round from a shotgun before the pair fled with a sum of cash.

The 19-year-old man sustained facial injuries during the incident and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with non life threatening injuries. No-one else was injured during the incident.

The pair fled in a dark coloured early model Ford or Holden sedan.
